and knees, which can severely restrict mobility in everyday life.

Eye inflammation as a result of ankylosing spondylitis

Anyone who also suffers from redness and pain in the eyes is very likely to have ankylosing spondylitis.
The eye inflammation known as iritis or uveitis affects around 30-40% of sufferers, although the heart and kidneys can also be affected.

Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis

After examinations in the form of X-rays, MRIs or blood tests and a definite diagnosis, ankylosing spondylitis should be treated quickly in order not only to alleviate the symptoms but also to slow down the progression of the disease.
It is important to train movement techniques that help to maintain mobility.

Physiotherapy to improve mobility

The aim of physiotherapy in the case of ankylosing spondylitis is to increase the flexibility and mobility of the body by training movement patterns in order to reduce pain.
This includes not only movement units, but also learning the correct posture. Incorrect posture and postures that are too relaxed are harmful to the body and cause the disease to progress steadily.
In the best case scenario, self-help measures are learned to help you cope with everyday life.

In some cases, drug therapy can help to reduce inflammation, although a doctor should be consulted depending on the stage and intensity of the condition.
Surgery may be required to correct deformities, particularly in severe cases, although this should only be undertaken after physical measures have failed.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a serious disease, but it is treatable if diagnosed and treated at an early stage.
If the body’s mobility is restricted and pain takes over everyday life, physiotherapy can be a good option to bring about a cure.

<img
